SITE WENT LIVE APRIL 30th! After many hours designing the site over the past 3 months and extensive coordination with our Partners, we have a preliminary launch. Our “official” launch will come at the 2009 Byron Nelson Classic, with the intro of the advertising campaign at the golf tournament that Byron started 40+ years ago (View Texas Hickory Golf Ad At Byron Nelson). This May 18th “official” launch date is 6 months after I started the planning of Texas Hickory Golf. I am excited and ready to begin discussing this hickory opportunity with golf clubs, charities and businesses. PLAY HICKORY!!!
Have decided on a major purchase for advertising Texas Hickory Golf……Advertising Wraps utilizing www.TrafficGrafix.com . I purchased two box trucks which will be used for the larger tournaments and when idle, can be placed around the DFW area as a moving billboard. I have also booked our first tournaments for April and May….very excited to get off to a quick start. In addition, several Country Clubs are interested in hosting an event either late this year or sometime in 2010.
Went to my first Golf Expo as a golf related business owner. The Expo was GREAT! Check it out at www.NorthTexasGolfExpo.com. Was able to meet many people that were interested in conducting a golf tournament using Texas Hickory Golf. The excitement of hundreds of people about Texas Hickory Golf assured me that we have a good business model and just need the time to develop the clientele. I am looking forward to many years of mixing business & pleasure!
This was a very busy month. Trying to coordinate all the activities to get the company ready for business by late Spring or early Summer. I should be able to utilize all the skills I learned over my 30 year career with Sears and AT&T. The difference being that all the hours and effort are going toward something that I’m building for myself and my family. Hopefully, a business that can be passed down to “My Three Sons”.
Texas Hickory Golf is now an operating entity! This company was conceived 15 years ago when I dreamed of having my own golf company. That dream turned into reality in 2009.
After buying my first set of hickories in St. Louis, MO. in 1990 for $20 and after playing my first round with them, I quickly realized that the swing has to be smoother and your ball striking a little better…..in comparison to using today’s modern technology. With every additional round, I understood a little more about the skill that good golfers had during the “Golden Era of Golf”……the 1890’s to around 1935.
I loved playing with these “old relics” so much that I researched if there were companies that rented hickories for an entire tournament. Since that original question, there are now only 6 companies around the world with enough hickories to hold a good sized tournament. Texas Hickory Golf is now one of those companies!
